VATER Machinery has established a purpose-built training facility at its Saddleworth branch to train the next generation of apprentices to diagnose and service tractors, combines, hay and handling equipment, and construction machinery.

The Vater Training Centre offers training modules, focusing on electric and hydraulic diagnosis, Precision Land Management Intelligence and guidance training.

It also delivers in-house training for apprentices, including the Motor Trade Association apprentices employed by Vater Machinery, in servicing, repairs and diagnostics, to meet the requirements of the sophisticated machines and ever-evolving technology.

Vater Machinery dealer principal Roger Vater said the new training facility would help address the growing demand for highly skilled parts and service technicians in the agriculture and viticulture industries.

“Attraction, recruitment and retention are our focus, and we continue to look for candidates who want to begin an apprenticeship and start their long-term career within the agricultural industry, as we have for decades,” Mr Vater said.

“By establishing the Vater Training Centre, we can bring apprentices from across our three branches to one central location, scheduling training at convenient times to suit business needs.

“This is less disruptive as they can drive to and from the centre each day, rather than travelling to Adelaide or beyond.”

For the past several years, Vater Machinery has run a New Holland CR combine demonstration program at its Kadina and Saddleworth dealerships.

“This helps provide more information about our products and educates our local farming communities to maximise their machine usage,” Mr Vater said.

“This is something we will continue to expand on with our customers into the future.”

Apprentice Quinn Hughes said the Vater Machinery apprenticeship was a good opportunity for himself and others to provide knowledge about their chosen career path.

“Roger and the Vater crew have given us a great opportunity by setting up the new training centre in Saddleworth,” Mr Hughes said.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how it all helps me further my career in the agricultural mechanical technical trade.”
