CARRICOWIE Poll Merino Stud at Brentwood was established in 1984 and has gained a reputation for breeding fast-growing, heavy-cutting sheep that produce high quality wool.

The stud is holding its annual on-property auction at 2.30pm on Tuesday, August 12.

The auction will be preceded by an inspection day from 10am to 4pm on Tuesday, August 5.

“We use an extensive artificial insemination program every year to achieve our objectives, which are to breed big-framed, heavy cutting sheep with a good constitution, that produce bright, white wool — in essence a dual-purpose animal,” stud principal Bronte Blyth said.

Carricowie will offer 80 well-grown young rams, aged 14 to 15 months, in the auction with others available afterwards for private selection.

The stud is Ovine Brucellosis Accredited (834) and has been vaccinated against Ovine Johne’s Disease for 20 years.

The Blyth family is looking forward to welcoming clients and visitors to the auction.

This year, the stud will display its sheep at the South East Merino Field Day at Keith, the Northern Areas Field Day at Jamestown, and the Royal Adelaide Show.
