ORRIE Cowie Merino, Poll Merino, White Suffolk and Suffolk Stud, Warooka, is opening its gates for its 58th on-property sale on Wednesday, August 9.

The stud is renowned for producing large-framed Merinos/Poll Merinos carrying well-nourished, bright, white stylish and soft handling medium wools.

“These genetics have the potential to make profits in all environments, particularly challenging high rainfall or dusty conditions,” John Dalla said.

“Within the Orrie Cowie studs, we have been continuing to focus on a Merino which grows faster while carrying more natural muscle and far more than the traditional Merino, creating a true dual-purpose Merino.”

Orrie Cowie has added to their list of achievements recently, placing at the South Australian Merino Championship in March.

“We entered a ram and ewe and came second, with our other two entries placed in the top seven, which was a fantastic result,” John said.

“At the 2021 Hay Merino Sheep Show, we were awarded Riverina Wool Australian Champion Hogget Merino ram with King George (Monarch 1188), sired by Collinsville Monarch 489.

“He was 13 months old, weighing 126 kilograms with lamb’s teeth, making it back-to-back Australian Champion Hogget ram titles.

“In 2022, we were awarded Champion pen of dual-purpose ram weaners and Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion March shorn rams.

“We didn’t attend Hay this year due to my commitment in the Australian shearing team.”

Orrie Cowie also received the most valuable fleece at the 2023 Karoonda Farm Fair, their fifth consecutive win.

“On property in 2022, we sold 116 Poll Merino and Merino rams averaging $2323, with a further 250 rams sold privately,” John said.

“Our offering in 2023 consists of 140 Poll Merino and Merino rams, with high quality, crimpy, white nourished waterproof wools with increased early growth.

“Sons of King George will feature in the sale.

“Also on offer are 30 White Suffolk and Suffolk rams with improved early growth and muscling, ideal for crossing with Merino ewes to produce quality prime lambs.”

Those unable to attend the sale will be able to bid via Auctionplus and private inspections are available by appointment only.

Surplus ewes will be sold in October.
