Rams to thrive in any climate

Advertising Promotion

NORTH Cowie stud at Warooka aims to breed plain-bodied structurally correct sheep, carrying wools in the 18.5 to 21-micron range, all making our clients’ surplus sheep in the saleyards extremely desirable.

In 2024, North Cowie sold 151 rams to a top of $3800, with the sale averaging more than $1100.

“Our rams are bred to thrive in any climate and environments, from the pastoral areas of South Australia and New South Wales to the high rainfall areas of the South East and Kangaroo Island,” stud principal Joe Murdoch said.

“At North Cowie we put an emphasis on the measurable traits that return clients more dollars per hectare and still with ease of management in mind.”

The Murdoch family was successful in purchasing the highly regarded Glenlea Park Poll Merino stud at Keith from Peter and Marianne Wallis in December 2024.

They bought a property 14 kilometres west of Keith on the Mount Charles Road and Glenlea Park has been relocated to this new farm.

At last year’s Glenlea Park sale, 161 rams were sold to a top of $20,000 and an average of $3647. Joe and Lucy Murdoch have relocated from the Warooka district to Keith to run this operation.

This year, North Cowie will have its first drop of Merino ram lambs for sale from Angenup HB100, which was the Supreme Champion at the 2023 Kattaning Sheep show in Western Australia and was purchased in partnership for $35,000.

“These lambs look outstanding,” Mr Murdoch said.

“We also have rams by White River 212, while the Poll Merino rams are by Glenlea Park 979, Collinsville Masterbuilt and our own homebred sires.”

North Cowie and Glenlea Park rams will be displayed at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show at Bendigo from July 18 to 20, the South East Merino Field Day at Keith on July 23, and the Royal Adelaide Show in September.

Glenlea Park rams will also be up for sale in Bendigo on Sunday, July 20, as part of the Australian Sheep and Wool Show and at the Royal Adelaide Show.

Joe, Lucy, Harry, Garry and Gwen Murdoch extend a warm welcome to all their past, current and future clients, visitors and friends, to their North Cowie sale at Warooka on Wednesday, July 30.

They would also love to see you at their Glenlea Park sale at Keith on Friday, August 8.

Both sales will start at 1pm with inspection from 10am.
