2024 Hanson Curramulka Speed Shear - Sheep thrills for the whole family
1 min read

PEOPLE from far and wide will be flocking to the 2024 Hanson Curramulka Spead Sheer on Saturday, March 23.

Competition is going to be tight this year, with national team selection on the line, as well as a $5000 first prize.

Curramulka Community Club chairperson Greg Agnew said the event was a highlight of the town’s calendar.

“It’s really exciting for the shearers this year because the points will go towards their national ranking,” Mr Agnew said.

“Every year we get a solid turnout of local shearers, as well as the guys travelling around.

“Last year we had about 40 entrants, our largest number to date, so we would love to see that number continue to grow.”

Previous winner Tiare Tipu, of Mount Gambier, won the open category last year with his time of 23.10 seconds, while Eliza Morgan won the women’s competition.

“The event isn’t possible without the support of our sponsors who enable us to offer great prizes,” Mr Agnew said.

“It is a great family day out, with something for everyone; the oval is in great condition and looking really lush.

“There will be a kids’ shearing competition and entertainment, bouncy castle, face painting and stalls on offer.

“As well as music, bar and canteen facilities — the event is getting bigger and better each year!”

Gates open at noon and entry is free, with shearing starting at 12.30pm.

Shearers can register on the day or online at www.curryspeedshear.com.
