FARMERS looking to maximise yield and seed quality in pod-bearing crops such as canola and lentils are turning to Enviroshield, a flexible crop sealant that offers a natural, effective solution for harvest timing challenges.
It forms a fine, micro-film over the pods or heads of the crop, mimicking the plant’s natural cuticle.
This protective layer repels external moisture while allowing gases and internal moisture to escape.
According to Agspec business manager Ian Boothey, this balance promotes even, consistent ripening, which helps reduce pod shatter, seed damage and loss.
“Enviroshield literally eases the physical strain on the pod seam,” Mr Boothey said.
“That means the seam stays intact longer, allowing the seed to mature fully and reach its highest potential in both volume and quality.”
One of the key advantages Enviroshield offers growers is the ability to extend the harvest window.
In crops such as canola or lentils, plants typically carry both mature and immature pods at the same time.
While mature pods might be ready for harvest, immature pods still require critical time for seed development. Harvesting too early can significantly reduce both oil content and seed weight.
“The last four weeks of pod development are crucial,” Mr Boothey said.
“A well-timed application of Enviroshield supports the full maturation of viable pods, which results in improved seed quality and higher yields.”
Enviroshield also provides flexibility during difficult harvest conditions.
For growers facing logistical delays or unfavourable weather, direct heading becomes a safer and more effective option.
Windrowing, while common, can halt pod development prematurely — often before full maturity is reached. Enviroshield allows the crop to continue developing in the paddock, making direct harvest both viable and cost-effective.
“Enviroshield helps crops reach full pod and seed development while keeping the harvest timeline open,”
Mr Boothey said.
“It consistently delivers better quality and volume in tough conditions — and it does so at less cost than windrowing.
“With Enviroshield, growers can reduce seed loss, increase crop value and retain flexibility at harvest — all of which add up to a healthier bottom line.”
